In Defence of the North

It has already been three years since Nazi Germany, led by Adolf Hitler, invaded Poland, triggering the Second World War. Consequently, a sizeable war effort is under way.

Canada must keep watch on its own territory, particularly its borders. Certain industrial facilities, like Alcan in the Saguenay, must also receive greater protection.

Hence the reason the Department of National Defence decided to build the Bagotville base. By 1942, it was fully operational. As it is today. The exhibit In Defence of the North relates the history of the Saguenay military base, from the days of World War II, through the Cold War years, to 2000 and beyond.
